I’m so glad I switched to Dr Kevin Murphy. After breaking my tibia and fibula in a motorcycle racing crash at Daytona in March of this year, I wasn’t satisfied with my original doctor I met with here in Oregon who didn’t really give me the attention I felt I needed or insight on how my recovery was progressing to make the right steps towards getting back to racing. I found out about Dr Murphy through my physical therapist and made the switch. I was very pleased to get to meet face to face with Dr Murphy every visit and have him take the time to explain how things are looking and what my options were. After monitoring my leg closely, it became apparent I needed a 2nd surgery because the original surgery I had done in Florida after my crash wasn’t getting me healed up all the way. I was worried this new surgery would set me back and the last thing I wanted to was to take any steps backward, but the moment I woke up from the surgery I felt this was the best decision I could’ve made. Within a couple of days I literally was walking 18 holes on the golf course. And a full week later, I can honestly say I feel the better than I did before this surgery and I truly feel like I will make a full recovery now. I really appreciate the attention Dr Murphy has provided me and I’m extremely pleased with his surgical work! I can’t wait to get back to racing here soon now. Thank you Dr Murphy and his wonderful staff for helping me out.

Back in 2017 I had a significant shoulder injury at work. I was new to Portland at the time and only a few years removed from playing collegiate athletics. I saw a couple of different area orthopedic surgeons before seeing Dr. Murphy.
At the time—Dr. Murphy was a member of Sports Medicine Oregon. I also learned that he was formerly the team doctor of the Portland Timbers. After my first visit with him I immediately knew I wanted him as my surgeon. His knowledge, ability to help me understand what happened to my shoulder, and his confidence made the decision easy for me.
I came back stronger than ever, not to mention this was the second operation on the same shoulder.
Fast forward seven years to September 2024. I had another work place injury but this time it was my knee, and like the 2017 injury, the damage was significant. I knew immediately that I wanted to see Dr. Murphy.
I was surprised to see that he was no longer at Sports Medicine Oregon, but even more delighted to see that he branched off and opened his own practice. Sports, Orthopedic and Regenerative Medicine (Soar) is smaller and more intimate. Soar feels like a place that is patient focused, rather than a patient mill that larger practices tend to operate as.
Much like the shoulder injury, Dr. Murphy educated me on the most modern treatments for my injury and he incorporates his research to effect the best outcome possible.
I am only a few days post knee operation but feel compelled to write this review. Dr. Murphy’s level of care is head and shoulders above the rest, and I cannot recommend him enough.
I still live a very active lifestyle, and am very physically fit. Dr. Murphy appears to live a similar lifestyle which puts me at ease and allows me to put my full trust in him.
Lastly, the staff that Dr. Murphy has surrounded himself with at SOAR is second to none. They are quick, thorough, and personable.
Whether it’s a work place or sports related injury, Dr. Murphy needs to be your go to orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Murphy is an excellent surgeon. He clearly explained every process in detail and was patient with all of my questions. My daughter is recovering well and he is pushing her to rehab effectively (a much needed nudge). His level of expertise and precision is bar none. I would have him operate on my knee if needed. 🙂
The staff is friendly and communicative. Kim has been extremely helpful navigating insurance issues and always manages to have a smile on her face. Thank you to the entire team. It is a pleasure working with you.

Fantastic not only did my surgery go perfectly. He did such clean and precise work I healed much faster than expected with minimal scaring. Dr. Murphy is thorough efficient and to the point. I wish I could find a primary care with the same characteristics. I have never seen a doctor that I would give this high of praise to. The best medical experience I have ever had.

Dr . Murphy is an experienced and skilled surgeon who recently replaced my right shoulder with a ‘reverse’ shoulder prosthesis. The surgery went well, now followed by extensive physical therapy. If all goes as planned, I should regain full function of my shoulder. Thank you , Dr. Murphy. — Gunnar Sedleniek (86-year old patient)

Great care from a great team. Everyone worked well together in what felt like a very seamless system aimed for what health care should be. I felt very supported and respected. Dr. Murphy and his entire team were great to work with, from the first visit 10+ months ago, through follow up appointments, scheduling, pre-op, surgery, and after care follow up.

I have been receiving care from Kevin Murphy for a number years now. First he repaired a torn rotator cuff in my shoulder. Since then, he has monitored the wear in my knees and keeps me in shape with an occasional shot, and advises on other orthopedic/aging issues. He and his associates are outstanding!

I have been coming to this practice off and on for 11 years. Dr Murphy is very professional and actually listens to me and shows concerns with my decision. Open conversations and gives my concerns and me as a patient validity. No one wants surgery but I am confident with him will be great results.
